Born in Sydney Katherine Allsopp is an emerging Australian artist who currently lives and works in Melbourne, Victoria. A stay at home mother of two young boys, her two passions in life are her family and painting.
The balance of chaos and control in domestic gardens serve as a metaphor for her own challenges with parenting and the intensity of contemporary life as a mother. Working from photographs to allow for compositions of, at times a suffocating closeness, her paintings are visual explorations made tangible in paint.
Katherine has a Bachelor of Visual Communications in Design and Illustration with honours from the University of Western Sydney (UWS) during which she concurrently studied life drawing and fine art with the Julian Ashton Art School. In her honours year she was awarded the Illustration Award from the University of Sydney. She then completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the National Art School, achieving both Painting and Drawing Awards from the Friends of the National Art School Foundation. She has also been the recipient of the William Fletcher Foundation Grant in Painting, and has been a finalist in the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award and the Portia Geach Portrait Prize.
Her work is in private collections around Australia.
